Happy new year and my best wishes for 2024 to everyone across Cannock Chase. I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas break.
Every year brings a different set of challenges and with it a renewed determination to improve people’s lives.
In 2023, we witnessed many profound challenges caused by the twin effects of Covid and Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine causing increases in both inflation and energy costs. As we head into 2024, I look forward to working with the Government as we continue to tackle these issues.
The Government rightly had to make tough decisions on the economy while supporting people through these global shocks.
It is because of those tough decisions, we are able to now cut taxes.
At the Autumn Statement the Chancellor announced cuts to National Insurance Contributions. These tax cuts came into effect last week. This tax cut will put £450 back in the pocket of the average worker and help them make ends meet.
I am confident the recent falls in inflation will allow the Government to take further action to strengthen the economy.
As we head into 2024, I am committed to being a strong voice for Cannock Chase, and continuing to raise the issues that matter with ministers in Government.

And January is already set to a busy month, with visits to schools, businesses and local events booked in the diary over the coming weeks.
It was great to start the year joining some amazing volunteers who were doing a tidy up at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rugeley. I’m looking forward to seeing the bulbs we planted bloom in the Spring!
