The 39th annual National Volunteers’ Week has just taken place and it was a chance for everyone to try their hand at volunteering, as well as thank all those who already do give up their time for local good causes.
As part of the National Volunteers' Week 2023 I was lucky enough to once again visit Newlife The Charity for Disabled Children, to meet some of their many fantastic volunteers.
Newlife was founded thirty years ago to ensure that disabled and terminally ill children get the best possible start in life and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Alongside coping with their disability, the sad fact is that thousands of children do not have access to the specialist equipment they really need. As a result, children are missing out on vital opportunities.
Newlife offers a lifeline for families by providing life-changing and life-saving equipment when and where it’s needed, helping thousands of disabled children across the country each year.
On my visit to Newlife it was great to go 'behind the scenes' and join volunteers as they prepared stock for the stores and see specialist play equipment being readied to send to families.

Newlife is just one of a number of local charities and good causes that exist thanks to the commitment and hard work of their volunteers. I have been lucky enough to visit many charities and voluntary groups across Cannock Chase over the years, and meet with dedicated volunteers.
Be it play groups, village halls, friends of parks groups or sports clubs, the value of community service is very strong here in Cannock Chase.
I want to thank all those individuals and businesses who are giving up their time to support local charities and voluntary organisations and thank these volunteers for everything they are doing to help these organisations continue their vital work.
I would also encourage all those who want to give back to their community to volunteer with a local charity or voluntary organisation today.
As always, if you require my help with anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone on 01543 877142.
