We were recently united in celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. It was a truly magical event and something that generations of families were able to experience together.
Not only was it a cause for national joy but it generated much cheer here in Cannock Chase.
It was lovely to see homes, businesses and public spaces across the District decorated with bunting and flags for the Coronation.
Like many others, I travelled to London to watch the procession on its way to and from Westminster Abbey. I'd actually had a sneak preview as I came across the dress rehearsal the week before on my way back from work. Watching the procession on the day is an experience I will never forget, and I feel so lucky to have seen it. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible. Whilst the weather wasn’t great, being a little damp, it certainly didn’t dampen anyone's spirits.
Across the UK, as well as here in Cannock Chase, street parties and celebrations were held to celebrate our new King.
Having spent the day in London, I came home to experience some of the festivities here in Cannock Chase. On a sunny Sunday it was wonderful to see so many enjoying the festivities in Brereton and Ravenhill Park. Thank you to everyone who organised this, and so many other events across the District.
And the celebrations didn’t end on the Coronation weekend. I was delighted to attend another Coronation celebration this weekend at the bowling green in Cannock, somewhere the then Prince Charles visited - in 1977 as part of the late Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
The green was looking magnificent, it was decked out in bunting and everyone was dressed in red, white and blue, and enjoyed competing on a beautiful day! I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some bowling tutoring from club members over the years, I think it’s fair to say I need to practice a bit more!
The Coronation was also a reminder of how our Monarch connects so many nations across the world, with His Majesty King Charles III now being Head of State for so many countries and territories.
Just days after the Coronation, I met with representatives from many of the British Overseas Territories who were in London for the Coronation. It was fantastic to see the British family all come together to celebrate the coronation of our new King.
I wish our new King a long and happy reign.
Long Live The King!
