In just a few days we will see the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
This once in a generation event is something that the whole nation will enjoy. I have no doubt that the world will be watching our proud nation as we crown our new King.
We have a whole weekend of celebrations, starting with the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey, taking place on the morning of Saturday 6th May. The Coronation is a religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry.
Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’. After the service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, including other members of the Royal Family, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’.
The processions will involve large numbers of our Armed Forces, undertaking their ceremonial duties. They have been practising for the Coronation for some time, and most recently have been undertaking rehearsals during the night in London. I recently had the enormous privilege to have behind the scenes access to observe the Equine Units as they rehearsed. The horsemanship is quite amazing, especially for those who are also playing musical instruments whilst riding! From what I saw, we are in for a real treat when it comes to the processions on the day.
The bank holiday weekend will be full of other events and there are plenty of ways that we can all celebrate the Coronation here in Cannock Chase. From decorating our homes and offices, to holding street parties to volunteering.
Over the weekend, many people will take part in The Coronation Big Lunch, where neighbours and communities meet up to share friendship, food and fun. A great opportunity to come together in parks, streets and community spaces to join the celebrations and mark this historic occasion.
The weekend’s events will conclude with 'the Big Help Out' on Bank Holiday Monday. In tribute to the King's public service, the Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves. We have a really strong voluntary sector here in Cannock Chase with so many brilliant local charities and voluntary groups, involving hugely committed individuals who give up their time to help others and contribute to our community. If your interested in volunteering yourself why not volunteer with a local group to mark the Coronation.
This weekend is set to be a hugely memorable occasion, and however you choose to celebrate the Coronation of the King, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
