It has been wonderful to see so many of you enjoying the Platinum Jubilee over the weekend. And I have been proud to see all the Union Jacks and Jubilee flags decorating our high streets and houses.
I know there have been lots of street parties and events across the constituency. This has demonstrated the best of our communities as we have come together to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70-year reign.
Last week, I was pleased to attend The Staffordshire Lieutenancy’s Platinum Jubilee Garden Party at Staffordshire County Showground.
As well as celebrating Her Majesty’s glorious reign, the event was also an opportunity for the County to recognise the collective effort that has been so evident and beneficial throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
I was truly honoured to also attend a special Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.
In the run up to the Jubilee, I was delighted to plant a tree at Cannock Chase High School to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Mrs Sarah Elsom, and students and staff from the school.
All 12 Staffordshire and Stoke MPs are planting a tree to form part of The Queen’s Green Canopy which will increase the number of trees and woodland across the UK.
The Jubilee really has given us all a chance to come together and celebrate our communities, what makes us British and, of course, Her Majesty The Queen.
I would also like to pay tribute to all those who have worked over the bank holiday – from doctors and nurses to shopworkers and police officers.
Finally, as many of you will be aware, last year, Cannock Chase District Council was awarded £20 million from the Government's Levelling up Fund programme to transform part of Cannock town centre.
Cannock Chase District Council is asking residents to take part in a questionnaire as part of their public consultation on how the money will be spent. I would encourage all constituents to fill in the questionnaire, and more information can be found on the Council’s website.
