Amanda Milling, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase raises the plight of bus passengers in Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament the Cannock Chase MP raised the issue of the withdrawal of bus services, including the Number 3 bus service that serves Norton Canes, ahead of a meeting with the bus operators Arriva.
This is not the first time that the Cannock Chase MP has intervened on behalf of bus passengers who have faced cuts to their service. Amanda first campaigned to save Norton Canes bus services in 2014 and ran a petition this Summer to save bus routes facing the axe. Despite the petition being signed by hundreds of people, Arriva pressed ahead with their proposals to withdraw some services, including the Number 3 service which serves a part of Norton Canes, which has no other bus service.
Amanda Milling said: “In July I supported Arriva’s “Catch the Bus” week, however only a few weeks later Arriva announced that it was axing services, including the No. 3 bus to Norton Canes. The loss of this vital service leaves a number of elderly and disabled residents who are totally reliant on it, completely cut off and unable to catch a bus. I was keen to raise the plight of these bus users in Parliament as it is unacceptable that people who rely on these services find themselves totally isolated and unable to get to work, to the shops or doctors’ appointments. “
Amanda added: “I will be pressing Arriva to return this vital service and I am meeting representatives from Arriva to again make the case for local residents. I have also contacted other local bus companies to see if anyone else is in a position to provide a vital bus link for local residents.”
