Last week saw Rishi Sunak become Leader of the Conservative Party and our new Prime Minister. In front of the famous black door on Downing Street he set out his priorities for our great country.
The most immediate task is to tackle the economic crisis, resulting from the aftermath of Covid-19 and Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
As the Prime Minister set out, the Government is committed to restoring economic stability, while delivering fair and compassionate support for the most vulnerable. The Chancellor will set out further plans on Thursday 17th November.
I understand that many families here in Cannock Chase are struggling with rising prices and higher energy bills. That is why the Government is helping families with the Energy Price Guarantee, and remains committed to supporting those most in need.
Turning to more local matters, I would like to make readers aware that I have recently launched my annual ‘Best of Cannock Chase’ competition, which seeks to find your favourite local independent businesses.
This is your chance to show your support for our amazing independent businesses and recognise the contribution these businesses make to our local communities and high streets.
Over the next few weeks, you will have the opportunity to vote for your favourite local independent businesses across 11 categories, including local shops, markets stalls and café/restaurants across the many towns and communities of Cannock Chase.
The competition will also see one local business crowned the overall winner, with the business getting the most votes in the competition securing the coveted 'Best of Cannock Chase' award.
Voting closes at midnight on 27th November, and I will announce the winners on 3rd December 2022, to mark Small Business Saturday.
For more information about the competition and to cast your votes, please visit www.bestchasebusiness.uk.
Businesses can download posters from the website which they can use to encourage their customers to vote for them in the competition.
I would urge readers to get voting! And to all our wonderful local independent businesses - good luck!
