As part of the Cannock Chase MP’s campaign to support local town centre businesses, Amanda Milling MP has launched her annual local shop competition. The competition, which is now in its sixth year, looks to find the best independent shops, market stalls and café/restaurants in Cannock Chase, with the winners announced as part of Small Business Saturday on 7th December 2019.
This year, the Cannock Chase MP has introduced three new categories to the competition, as Bridgtown, Norton Canes and Heath Hayes high streets join the competition. Residents can vote for their favourite shops, market stalls and cafés/restaurants in each of Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley, and their favourite independent high street business in Bridgtown, Norton Canes and Heath Hayes.
The competition is now open and the Cannock Chase MP is urging the public to vote for their favourite independent shops and businesses. Votes are open until 5pm on Monday 2nd December. As well as winning a specific category by getting the most votes, the business with the most votes in the competition will be crowned the overall 2019 winner.
The winners will be announced on Small Business Saturday which takes place on 7th December 2019. Small Business Saturday UK is a not-for-profit campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages the UK to support small businesses
Amanda said: "Local independent retailers are at the heart of our communities. This annual competition is an opportunity to celebrate the great small businesses we have on our high streets and that is why I am urging residents to vote and support their favourites.”
The Cannock Chase MP added: “This competition is very popular and fiercely fought each year. I am always keen to add something new each year. This year I have introduced three new categories which will be an opportunity to crown small local independent retailers in Bridgtown, Norton Canes and Heath Hayes.”
The winners in 2018 were:
Rugeley Café/restaurant – Made With Love Tea Rooms
Rugeley Shop – Lachmere
Rugeley Market – Meat to Please You
Cannock Café/restaurant – Mim’s Mom’s Coffee Bar
Cannock Shop – La Vie en Rose Floristry
Cannock Market – The Rug Stall
Hednesford Café/restaurant – Bella’s Coffee House

Overall winner (most votes across any category) – Made With Love Tea Rooms
Amanda added: “I would like to wish all local retailers the best of luck in the competition and I look forward to announcing the results as part of Small Business Saturday at the beginning of December. Winning an award is an early Christmas present for the winners.”

Businesses can also download voting forms and posters to display to their customers.
