Amanda Milling MP, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase, visited Rugeley's Rose Theatre and Community Hall to view the touring exhibition of the Staffordshire Hoard.
The popular display tells the story of the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard and is set to close this weekend. The display is part of a wider touring exhibition visiting many Staffordshire towns.
The unearthing of Saxon treasure in a South Staffordshire field hit the headlines worldwide in 2009. “Treasure - Discovering the Staffordshire Hoard” brought the tale to Rugeley's Rose Theatre and Community Hall and is set to finish its display on Sunday September 6. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
The exhibition, developed by Staffordshire County Council's museums team, features high quality replicas of some of the treasure, video footage, and interactive displays. Visitors can try their hand at detecting for treasure, cleaning a piece of the hoard, or dress up like an Anglo-Saxon would have done in the 7th century.
Amanda Milling said, “With just two days left to visit the display I would encourage everyone to visit and see our fascinating Saxon history before it moves on. It is amazing to think that such a treasure trove was unearthed just a few miles away. I would encourage everyone to spare 5 minutes over the weekend to see the display”
