We are incredibly fortunate to have the beautiful Chase on our doorstep, but I think we can all agree that for anyone who loves our area, nature, and wildlife - litter is a real 'bugbear’!
It is one of those issues where the actions of inconsiderate people can spoil the view for the rest of us. Litter not only makes a place look messy, but it also has the potential to harm nature and wildlife. Be it on the side of roads/train tracks, on the Chase itself, or in a local park, litter really spoils our local environment. I like many constituents, want to see our area become litter free.
That’s why I am supporting this year’s Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean. This is a huge annual nationwide clean-up, and something we can all get involved with.
Many different community groups, organisations and schoolchildren will be holding events during the course of the campaign, to help us rid our parks and streets of the blight of litter and show our pride for the area.
I will be getting my high-viz jacket and litter picker out and joining fellow litter heroes at a range of pre-organised events in the coming weeks across Cannock Chase.
If you want to join any pre-organised events keep an eye on the local community groups on social media or visit www.keepbritaintidy.org/gbspringclean to find out how you can get involved.
This year’s campaign calls on everyone to take on the Big Bag Challenge. Whether it’s a pledge to pick one bag of litter, or fifty, hopefully we can make a real difference and make Cannock Chase a cleaner and safer place.
So I hope that you will join me in helping make our parks, streets and open spaces litter free during this Great British Spring Clean.
As always, if you require my help with anything at all, not just litter, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone on 01543 877142.
