The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has thrown his support behind prospective Conservative MP Amanda Milling.
Mr Osborne was in Cannock to visit the local branch of Screwfix as part of a nationwide tour of Great British brands. The company revealed it would be opening 50 new branches throughout the country, creating 900 new jobs.
Speaking at the event, Mr Osborne said: “Here in Cannock we have in Amanda a brilliant local candidate, born locally, who has come here with her business experience to focus on creating jobs and getting young people into work.
“She’s determined to build on the great work the Conservative Party has done in Cannock in recent years. People have great choice here for a Conservative MP at the next election.”
Miss Milling said: “It is fantastic to see a business like Screwfix, which employs many local people, prospering and creating more jobs. Talking to the staff, they are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate and really work hard to understand and support their customers.
“Seeing how the company has changed over the last decade has been remarkable. The firm has transformed from a basic mail order firm to a modern business with sophisticated technology for fulfilling customer orders.
“In the couple of hours we visited the Cannock store, the flow of customers through the door didn’t stop – which is a promising sign for the construction industry and indeed wider economy more generally.”
