Local Businesses are invited to a free Business Breakfast to prepare for new data protection changes.
Amanda Milling, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase, is joining forces with Cannock-based technology business Spartan Global Services and the Chase Chamber of Commerce, to host a free event for local businesses.
All UK businesses will be subject to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that comes into force in May 2018. In order to ensure that business are compliant, it is likely that additional requirements will need to be met and new processes will have to be adopted. The event is designed to ensure local businesses are aware of what is required of them and help them to be fully prepared for the new regulations.
Amanda Milling MP said: “Many businesses are aware of the forthcoming changes to the rules surrounding data protection, but are unaware of the impact that this may have on business. If you hold, collect, process or store any form of personal data, whether that be names, addresses or contact details, then you are required to be fully GDPR compliant by 25th May 2018. I would like to encourage local businesses to sign up for the event.”
Many aspects of GDPR compliance are not apparent initially and organisations do not realise what elements of their operations will be subjected to the new regulations, without the knowledge and awareness that event like this will provide. It is important that businesses sign up and understand how the changes affect them.
Chris Pattihis of Spartan Global Services said: “The requirements that local businesses will need to comply with are extensive and are a high logistical challenge for any business. They also affect any type of business from manufacturers and service sector businesses, through to landlords and leisure businesses. If you hold personal data including names and addresses, or are part of a wider supply chain, you need to ensure that you are data compliant.”
The free breakfast briefing morning being held in conjunction with Spartan Global Services and the Chase Chamber of Commerce takes place at 8.00am on Friday 2nd March 2018 at The Premier Suite, Danilo Road, Cannock WS11 1BJ.
