I recently held one of my regular meetings with officials at West Midlands Trains to discuss our local rail services.
The people of Cannock Chase have had to put up with more than their fair share of train issues. From delays and cancellations to early terminations, as well as tolerating antisocial behaviour (ASB) and fare-dodging.
I am pleased to say that I am currently receiving very few complaints about our local train services. Many of these issues have been resolved for passengers, with new trains, longer platforms and the lines’ electrification.
I used the meeting as an opportunity to double down on my campaign to secure a disabled access footbridge at Rugeley Trent Valley.
It has been my mission since becoming an MP to rectify this injustice and ensure everyone can use the services at Rugeley Trent Valley. This includes Cannock and Hednesford residents travelling to Trent Valley for the London connection.
I have written to the Trains Minister, Wendy Morton MP, and the Chief Executive of Network Rail, Andrew Haines, about why we need this disabled access bridge and will keep constituents updated.
Looking ahead, I am pleased that stricter penalties will be introduced to deter fare-dodging. I know this is something many hardworking and honest people who pay for their train tickets in Cannock Chase will welcome.
If you have experienced any issues with our local train services, please do get in contact with my office and I will raise your concerns at my next meeting with West Midlands Trains.
