People in Cannock Chase are set to benefit from today’s Budget with the regeneration of Cannock Town Centre given the go-ahead as part of the Government’s commitment to level up every part of the United Kingdom.
Cannock Chase MP, Amanda Milling, has welcomed the Chancellor’s announcement in the Budget of £20 million from the government’s Levelling Up Fund for Cannock Town Centre.
Cannock Chase District Council will be able to use this funding to develop a new cultural hub for the town centre, including a new cinema, enhanced theatre, workspaces, and education space aimed at entrepreneurs.
Cannock Town Centre is one of 11 projects set to receive support from the £196 million Levelling Up Fund across the West Midlands to help working families, support business and drive economic growth as the country recovers from the pandemic.
The Levelling Up Fund was launched to invest in local infrastructure and help improve communities across the country.
Commenting, Amanda Milling MP, said:
“I’m delighted that Cannock has received £20 million in funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
“Since getting elected in 2015 I’ve been banging the drum for more investment in Cannock Chase and this funding will help Cannock to reach its full potential by boosting our local economy, creating jobs, increasing skills, regenerating the area and helping us to recover from the pandemic.
“Levelling up is a key part of this Conservative Government’s agenda for the country and I’m pleased that Cannock Chase is a key part of these plans.”
Commenting, Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said:
“One year ago, this country was in the grip of the biggest recession in 300 years. Thanks to our Plan For Jobs, we are today recovering faster than our major competitors, more people are in work, and growth is up. But uncertainty in the global economy means that recovery is now under threat.
“That is why this Budget and Spending Review delivers a stronger economy for people in Cannock and the West Midlands – strengthening our public finances, helping working families meet the cost of living, supporting businesses, delivering stronger public services, and driving economic growth.
“This is a Budget which will level up Cannock Chase and the whole West Midlands. It is a Budget which provides the foundations for a stronger economy.”
