Amanda Milling, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase, has welcomed recent figures that show unemployment in Cannock Chase constituency is continuing to fall.
Figures released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics show that local unemployment fell by 14% between April 2015 and April 2016, meaning 118 extra people are in work in the Cannock Chase area.
Amanda Milling said: “This is great news for us and shows that our local economy is getting stronger every day however there is still more work to be done. As such, I am holding a Jobs Fair in Rugeley. The event is free to both job seekers and employers.”
The national employment rates have also improved, hitting a record high of 74.2%, with 31.6 million people in work. This is an increase of 409,000 more people in work than this time last year.
Amanda added: “The UK unemployment rate is 5.1%, the lowest it has been for a decade. I am also very pleased to see nearly 86% of 16-24s are in full time study or work with the number of long term unemployed young people down 111,000 since 2010. I believe it is essential we help young people get the best start in their career and this has been a big focus for me locally.”
The Job Fair is being held on Friday 17th June, from 10am until 1pm at Rugeley Rose Theatre in Rugeley (WS15 2AA). Businesses and job seekers can get more information by contacting Amanda Milling MP on [email protected] or call 01543 877142.
