Amanda Milling, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase has raised in Parliament the issue of HGV parking in residential areas and industrial estates in Rugeley.
The issue, known as Fly-Parking, is causing serious concern for many residents in Rugeley, with HGVs making deliveries to local businesses such as Amazon and parking up overnight in residential streets, before or after making deliveries.
Amanda Milling said: “HGVs parking up overnight is badly affecting residents in Rugeley, particularly those on Leathermill Lane and Love Lane, although it also affecting businesses in the area too. I have had numerous complaints resulting from these HGVs causing an obstruction as well as drivers leaving litter and rubbish behind. I can completely appreciate how frustrating this must be for local residents and businesses and this needs sorting."
Following complaints about the issue Amanda is calling on the local councils and the police to take this issue seriously and look at what measures can be taken to address the problem.
Amanda Milling added: "I have been in contact with various organisations including the local councils and police to get this issue addressed for residents and local businesses who are seriously inconvenienced by the problem. It is clear to me that much more needs to be done and I am calling on all organisations to look at what powers they have to stop these HGVs parking up overnight."
The Cannock Chase MP has also echoed local residents’ suggestions that some of the Rugeley Power Station site could include proper HGV parking and facilities and is calling on the Taskforce to consider this in their plans.
Amanda said: "It is clear to me that we need some proper parking and facilities for HGVs and so I have suggested the Power Station Taskforce consider this in their planning. HGVs parking overnight on local roads is a problem now and it could get even worse depending on what business and industrial estates are included in the site's redevelopment. Whilst I fully support the need for business and industrial units in the site redevelopment, we need to ensure the correct infrastructure is in place too and this includes appropriate HGV parking and facilities."
