Cannock Chase MP, Amanda Milling, helps volunteers in Rugeley “Clean for the Queen”.
Taking part in the national Keep Britain Tidy initiative, Amanda Milling, joined local residents in a clean up of Etching Hill. Amanda was one of 23 volunteers who took part in the litter pick. The 'Clean for The Queen' event was a national campaign organised by Keep Britain Tidy to clean up the UK in time for Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016. At the weekend, groups and individuals across the country all helped to tidy up their local communities in celebration of Her Majesty’s long life of dedicated service.
Volunteers from the Friends of Etching Hill group, the Cannock Chase MP and other local residents went out in force at the weekend to collect litter left on the local beauty spot. The clean up saw 30 bags filled with the collected rubbish and litter.
Amanda Milling said: “I was delighted to join the Friends of Etching Hill for the clean up to help make the area clean and tidy. I was very surprised by the rubbish we found which included a single bed headboard, builders’ rubbish, broken glass, a tent, as well as lots of other general litter. You have to wonder how some of it gets up there!"
Amanda added: "There is real passion for this gem of a beauty spot in Rugeley but unfortunately it does attract litter. All of the volunteers involved with the Friends of the Etching Hill deserve to be commended for their efforts getting on top of this litter problem and keeping it clean for everyone to enjoy.”
After the clean up the Friends of Etching Hill treated all the volunteers to a well deserved afternoon tea. As well as local clean ups, the Friends of Etching Hill hold a number of other community events open to the public. The group is seeking new members and volunteers who would like to get involved in their projects.
